In the raunchy comedy American Pie,
horny high school senior Jason Biggs decides to erotically seduce
a freshly baked pie in a hormonally angst-ridden moment which
makes up the film's signature scene, which of course leads to
a humorous situation with suitably deadpan father Eugene Levy's
discovery of his son with a pie spread all over his genitals.
Now imagine how differently that iconic cinematic scene would
have played with audiences if Biggs was raping that strident baked
pastry instead of making sweet love. That mental image may give
profound insight into just how strange a film this is, because
at its heart Eros School: Feels So Good
is a lighthearted rape comedy. |

Long-legged
minx Asami Ogawa stars as Misa, senior class president and champion
runner for Eros School; she's also the love object of useless
loser and all-around tool Tadao, who tries to sniff and lick her
feet every chance he gets. The campus is largely run by the tough
intelligent ladies of the school, and the boys are shown to be
weak and subservient to these superwomen, particular the main
clique of Misa, Akemi the Super Karate Girl (who can beat any
man in unarmed combat) and Yoshie the Newspaper Girl (whose journalistic
know-how can bring public pressure against any opposition). The
ladies' main goal is to ensure that there are no distractions
to Misa so she can win the last match of her senior year against
the women of their rival school. Tadao and the guys mostly want
to get laid somewhere or anywhere by the constant parade of comely
hotties around them, but instead they are constantly beaten and
humiliated for their feeble efforts. Tadao and his pal even try
to ineptly procure sexual service from a brothel only to get beat
up by the hookers, which unknown to them is made up of girls from
Misa's rival school. |

Into
this hothouse mix of love and lust steps a strange drifter, Ryu
(Shohei Murakumi), and his pet pig. He had dropped out of school
but, typical of people returning to the classroom, is looking
to fulfill a goal. Instead of an education, however, Ryu's goal
at Eros School is to rape every woman in attendance. As he goes
on his quest, he actually saves Misa from an assault by her enemies
on the rival track team by raping the lead bad girl and riding
her out of the area naked on a bicycle. Tadao and the guys are
instantly envious of Ryu, who starts to call himself Ryu the Rapist,
and the lust-addled lads are emboldened to see his banners festooned
around campus saying that he will rape every woman in the school
and there's nothing anybody can do about it. They even watch some
of his rapes through windows, generally with admiration since
he is the first guy not to be subdued by the powerful female clique
at Eros. There's trouble in paradise, however, as Tadao begins
to worry that his virginal Misa will be deflowered before he can
have sex with her. Misa, Akemi and Yoshie are only concerned about
the threatened sexual assault because they don't want a distraction
for Misa's big race. The school administration doesn't seem to
be particular concerned about an avowed rapist with a pet pig
in tow working his way through the student body one lady at a
time — until he rapes someone in front of a screaming teacher,
which starts the ball rolling on Ryu being kicked out of school.
Will Ryu the Rapist be able to rape his way through the female
population of the school before he is expelled? Will Misa be able
to win her match and keep her virginity intact? Will Tadao be
able to have sexual relations with Misa, or at least her feet,
before his gonads explode? What does a pet pig have to do with
any of the rest of the film? All will be revealed before the end. |

Eros
School: Feels So Good
is not a normal film. If movies were judged sane, insane, or foaming
at the mouth, Eros School would be
considered a drooling psycho in a straitjacket, rocking back and
forth in a padded cell in an abandoned institution as it laughs
while soiling itself. The film treats rape as a very light subject
most of the time, with the women largely enjoying the assault
after initial resistance. Ryu even tells a few women that he can
only get it up with a new rape, so that regardless of their later
interest they only get one time with him. Victims are also shown
to not be particular bothered that they were raped after the event;
even the one person who seems to fight hardest against it is shown
joking about it in a casual fashion later on like it was no more
than a mere inconvenience, and a few seem wistful for Ryu's tough
brand of lovemaking. This is a controversial view of rape to say
the least, but considering that there are comedy killings and
mutilations in numerous films throughout history that hasn't meant
that the filmmakers endorsed murder in real life, maybe it's not
so bad that there is a film that portrays rapes as fodder for
goofy humor. If you can get behind the idea that a rape can be
humorously portrayed in a film — or at least divorce the horrible
reality of sexual assault from its fictional counterpart — Eros
School: Feels So Good comes across as the Japanese equivalent
of the Hollywood style horndog comedy combined with a touch of
classic 'snobs vs. slobs' antics (the girls being the snobs and
all the guys acting as the slobs), offering plentiful nudity and
strange sexual situations to supply a solid erotic undercurrent
to the light comedy. |

Pictures release of 1977's Eros School:
Feels So Good is released under their Nikkatsu Erotic
Films Collection banner, and clocks in with a crisp if not
spectacular 16x9/2.35:1 image. Audio choice is relegated to Japanese
2.0 only, but there are new removable English subtitles. Like
their earlier release of Debauchery,
extensive and knowledgeable liner notes are provided by scholar
Jasper Sharp, revealing the interesting relationship between director
Koretsugu Kurahara and his more famous and beloved older brother
(who held the box office record in Japan for many years). 6/03/12 |
